You will first book an initial appointment where we will discuss all your symptoms and history so I can get a good, broad picture of what's going on for you. When this is done, we will discuss a therapy plan, including what can be done about your individual challenges and how often would be good to see me for sessions.
After this we get started to stabilize your symptoms as much as possible...it's not a good idea to go into Trauma sessions if it's just going to send you straight into a panic attack. I will teach you skills to stabilize your symptoms as much as we possibly can.
When this is done, we start doing Trauma reprocessing sessions where we heal the actual Trauma. As time passes and more reprocessing sessions are done, your general mental health will improve and many (if not all) of your symptoms will disappear over time with it.
We work slowly and keep you within the window of what you can tolerate and cope with.
PSYCHOTHERAPIST | GROUP THERAPIST | HYBRID EMPLOYEE WELLNESS TRAINING DEVELOPER | TRAINER l CROSS CULTURAL COMPETENCE TEAMS TRAINER
What a journey!
I went from being a young, very much Traumatized farm-girl living close to a small town with one horse, a liquor store and no Mental Health Services, to becoming a still-very-traumatized student of Psychology, before heaping on more Trauma just for funzies!
Eventually it all brought me to a halt and I had to take responsibility for my Trauma and seek the help of...whoever I could, really....Therapists, books, trainings, my studies...whatever I could find!
This journey took me on a road to living and working in all three mainstream cultures of the world, getting trained in cross-cultural competence, going through culture shock, learning different languages, burning myself out...and still not being perfect after all of it...even though I still try and attend more trainings than ever before.
Long story short...I know what it takes to be in the seat of the client, I have felt it on my own skin...and I can say with confidence that there is SO much hope. It's most definitely not easy and quite a financial investment...but nothing I have ever done in my life has been as rewarding as healing from my own Trauma and Burnout.
For those who want to know more about the nitty gritty details...
I have a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, majoring in Psychology, a 3-year advanced certificate in Narrative therapy, and am trained in CBT, DBT, EMDR, Traumatic Incident Reduction, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, Trauma Release Exercises (TRE), Neuropsychotherapy, and more. I see individuals ages 17+ and also offers group therapy and mental-health trainings. I speak 2 languages (English and Afrikaans) fluently, and use Turkish for self-defence only. My therapy approach is very much person-centered and adapted to the individual.
I am a level 4 registered Counsellor (which is like having a black belt in Kung Fu) with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and offer both in-person and online options in order to make Psychotherapy more accessible to clients.
Both NDIS and Private Clients are welcome.
The short answer is yes. Clients have often arrived for their initial appointment with not much hope and a lot of skepticism, as they have seen Counsellors or Psychologists in the past and still battle with their Trauma. Why does this happen?
Most Mental Health Professionals are not trained in Trauma. They do not know how to identify it in your symptoms, nor are they trained in Trauma techniques that have the ability to heal, not only manage symptoms.
Trauma CAN be healed, and you are now at the right KIND of therapist for it...book an appointment now to avoid long waitlists...
I have seen clients be absolutely overcome by 40-year-old Trauma...and I have had the privilege of seeing them heal from it. Trauma gets stuck in the Nervous System and has a great impact on the brain.
Childhood Trauma shapes how we see ourselves and the world, often creating mental-health issues, physical health issues, as well as relational issues in adulthood.
Life is hard enough...let us help you take this off your shoulders. Book your appointment now.
What I see most often coming through my door, are...
Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Nightmares / Flashbacks, Anger Issues, Insomnia, Disordered Eating, Substance Abuse, Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, Emotional Numbness, Low Interoception Issues (struggling to feel into your body), relational issues, People Pleasing, Too rigid / too slack Boudnaries, etc.
Trauma also often exists with other Mental-Health diagnoses, such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Addictions, Panic Disorders, Phobias, and the like.
